This Tribute is supporting Alzheimer's Society. If you want to help please make a Donation or consider creating a Fundraising Event. Alzheimer's Dementia is a devastating illness. When mum was diagnosed in February 2015 we were ill prepared for what lay ahead. We thought that dementia meant that she would forget stuff easily, particularly the recent stuff, but that she would remember the old stuff. What we did not know was that it would rob mum of the ability to walk unaided, that it would rob mum of the ability to converse with people, that it would rob mum of the ability to swallow her food. We watched helpless for 4 years while she deteriorated doing what little we could. It was heartbreaking. Many is the time I drove home from visiting her in tears. Sometimes I found it hard to hide the tears when in her company. How much it affected her personally we can only guess. We hope that she was not aware, but occasionally she would say something lucid and the last thing she said to me was, "This is terrible". We hope that by fundraising we can help doctors and researchers find a cure to this horrible, horrible disease and stop the suffering it causes to the victim and those who love them. I thank God that mum is finally at peace and is free of this awful illness. God Bless Mum. Love you for ever.
